Inside a straight-lined and modern Vadodara office

Usine Studio crafts a modern and contemporary office filled a warm material palette, plush furniture and bespoke graphical art.

The brief

Usine Studio was approached by Priyank Parikh to design a multi-storey building in the commercial zone of Vadodara. The client was to occupy four floors in the building, while the other two were to be leased out. The 8,000 sq ft plot has been completely utilised in accordance to its FSI, with G+5 floors and with each floor comprising of 3,000 sq ft. The brief required the architecture of the building to be clean, minimal and functional. Usine Studio, who was also entrusted with the interior design of the office (of the owner) required the space to reflect the same philosophy along with few focal elements and an earthy materials.

The design intent

“As the office belongs to a builder, the material palette we envisioned included exposed RCC, fluted glass and wood. Keeping the modern theme in mind, we have tried to fulfil all the requirement with a minimal design approach. Every space has a unique character that redefines luxury, and the overall outlook is knitted with functional design highlighted by handpicked and custom-made graphics and art pieces. The abstraction of plans, elevation and geometric pattern related to architecture is composed and carved out in murals that are specifically placed to enhance the ambience. Overall, this office comes together as a combination of places with definite and distinctive material palettes, dotted with plants and greens that is contemporary and lavish,” shares Yatin Kavaiya and Jiten Tosar, principal designers, Usine Studio.

The design and material details

The layout of the office is simple and clear, it is divided into three zones — personal cabins, informal meeting area for discussions and formal spaces for the technical team. A large open reception with a waiting area welcomes a visitor. The exposed RCC fluted wall with terrazzo top reception table and striking sculptures, wall arts featuring geometric designs and cityscapes form an engaging reception area. The conference room has a stone top table and designer lights to provide an uncluttered appearance. The main cabin is filled with natural light (thanks to the glass facade), is completely modern, and accommodates an 11’ long desk. The exposed ceiling and RCC wall here is contrasted with bold murals and the geometric designs of the console unit. The cabin further extends to a personal lounge. In the second cabin a metal rack for books, a mosaic topped desk, and a bright artwork adds colour and style.

The lounge for informal discussions is separated with fluted glass and has comfortable deep green sofas which contrasts the grey backdrop. The main work area, the storage room and the cabin for the accounts team is designed with simple lines and clean and functional furniture. The services and pantry areas are segregated from the main office area as per the architecture design.
