The brief
Fancy Pants’ new outlet in Bandra, Mumbai, is Quirk Studio’s second collaboration with the brand, having worked on a summer pop-up for them earlier. The brief from the client — the design needed to communicate the maturity of the brand; and the store should encourage and inspire women across all ages for a visit.
The design intent
The design of the store aims to celebrate the ideology of the label that is tailored specially for women. By reflecting the character of the brand, the vibrant interiors create spaces that are flamboyant, chic and feminine all at once. The store is conceptualised using the brand’s colour, hot pink, with contrasting highlights in emerald green. The underlying hints of blacks and whites in the form of stripes adds contrast.

These colours extend to the organically designed furniture pieces that bring together curves and bold textures without cluttering the visual experience. The inspiration for these curves is drawn from Fancy Pants’ belief in the celebration of curves. Its apparels come in all sizes, so that every woman, regardless of her body shape, has the option to wear what she loves and desires. This core value finds manifestation in the design through various elements. The dynamic, contrasting combination of colour tones, along with the emphasis on the curved design details, perfectly augments the drama within the store, making it a visually inviting, spatial experience.

The design and material details
Visual stimulation through colour and material, with products on display forming the focal point was the basic design plan. A high-ceiling helps to create the adequate volume which is accentuated by the baby pink wall panelling which flanks the store. The use of arches throughout the store besides being artistic reminds one of shopping arcades. The two dressing rooms with semi-circular cut-out walls, rendered in vivid hues of hot pink, baby pink, and emerald green, provide a textured backdrop towards the end of the store. The pink colour is also carried forward to the drapes of the dressing room. The vibrant interior is complemented by subtle terrazzo flooring. Contemporary brass-finished racks and tables adds elegance. The bespoke table with a black countertop which sits in the middle of the store, houses the brand’s accessories. A dummy vending machine is installed inside the store to create an exciting and fun design element. The track lights and recessed downlights that run across the ceiling offer optimal illumination and transform the entire retail space into an uplifting and delightful shopping experience for the users. The entrance is accentuated by an LED signage that showcases the brand’s ideology — Be Fierce Be Fancy.
