The inspiration for this project designed by Studio GSA in Bengaluru stemmed from the client’s brief of having a space that would reflect their heritage, a place that could blend the old and the new and yet accommodate their contemporary lifestyle. The living, dining and family area is enveloped by arch patterned walls in pastel blues and corals. The natural pigments in these paints and their names (a morning walk in Jaipur) are reminiscent of times gone by as are some of the furniture pieces in woven cane and distressed finishes.

Located in Vadodara, Kothari House is a 4BHK apartment designed by Tejas Patel Associates. The design philosophy of the contemporary home was to focus on minimalism with emphasis on colour play. For the living room, a pastel colour scheme has been used, with green and pink to provide a sense of serenity while still maintaining a certain quirkiness to the space.

Designed around a garden with a few large trees, Meraki Cafe is a 3,000 sq ft venue in Chennai that opens up gradually, one relaxed step at a time. The client wanted to highlight the tropical nature of the city and also create a lively ambience, attracting millennials. At first glance, what strikes most visitors are the bold, colour-infused leaf artworks that adorn the walls and even the ceiling in some areas. These static versions, created by a local artist, complement their real counterparts perfectly, but let the latter be the hero. The walls in the entire cafe have been painted a soft pink, to create an almost neutral backdrop for the artworks and vegetation. The indoor area is the first section of the cafe near the entrance, and is encased in a glass and metal frame.

Melding the gentleness of sand dunes with the stolidity of Brutalism, Sand Storm is home to a young nuclear family that wanted minimalism, lots of storage and an interior environment that was removed from the ordinary. The visual vocabulary brings together beige sand-textured walls, wooden flooring, veneers and brass. The public zone is an open-plan volume comprising a living room that segues into a kitchen, the two functionalities being separated by a brass counter. The sheers at the windows diffuse natural light, bathing the soft grey sofa in a flattering glow.
