The Floating Glass House, designed by Advait Architects in Surat, is a home within a home. An open floor plan, huge glass openings, and an uninterrupted verticality, all contribute to making this small residential extension impactful enough on its own. The bathroom for this home is expansive and comprises a dry area, a wet area, a bathtub and a basin. Materials employed include Italian marble (on the walls and floor, as planks and pebbles) and RCC finish (ceiling). The skylight, which invites natural light into the bathroom, gives the space its natural-meets-manmade appeal.

This the son’s washroom in the architects’ own home. The  skylight above the washbasin ensures sunlight and ventilation. Imported from Brazil, Patagonia natural stone with fossils wraps the central portion from the floor to the wall, creating a stunning, even riveting, backdrop to the bespoke and bold washbasin created by Niroop Reddy, principal architect and co-founder, NA Architects. The rest of the toilet is cladded with white quartz. Another futuristic element is the walls embedded with fibre optics with motion sensors, so that at nights you have a surreal starry feel, especially with moon light flowing in from the skylight.

This home was a refurbishment exercise which liberated spaces from an earlier hemmed-in layout. This entailed reclaiming margin areas and shifting functional entities such as washrooms and seating spaces to the new extensions, which increased elbow room within. The sprawling bathroom attached to the master bedroom is a product of such retailoring. Beautifully patterned Italian marble sets the stage for the narrative. The wood and brass screen behind the washbasin is a sliding one, and forms a moving partition between the sleeping and bathing areas. The notable part is the open-air shower area with its painted, split-bamboo enclosure.

This luxurious yet subtle bathroom is designed in gorgeous grey hues with silver river Italian and marble cladded in leather finish on walls and polished finish on the floor. The strong clean lines pair nicely with sleek chrome fixtures while the oversized window allows natural light to come pouring in , accentuating the natural beauty of this dramatic stone. The two black basins perfectly compliment the fluted black and grey double vanity beneath adorned with brass handles . Adequate storage in the vanity for laundry and toiletries allow for a tidy bathroom setting. The matt gold suspensions and planter enhance the look further.

A clutter-free and minimalistic space with no partitions; and a raw, yet modern look were vital requirements for the Nature Infused Home project designed by The Arch Studio in Pune. For this large master bathroom (featured here) the clients wanted a non-colourful minimalistic design, hence the architect decided to work with only black and white throughout the space. The bathroom is draped in white (statuario) ceramic vitrified tiles on the walls and floor; with black 3D porcelain highlighter tiles as a backdrop for the bathtub. The vitrified tiles also flow onto the washbasin counter which has profile shutters in black glass.

This lavish bathroom is part of the Tavish project designed by Dreamscape Architects in suburban Ahmedabad. The family wanted their home to be well connected with nature, and insisted on having open, yet private spaces throughout the house which ensured a relaxing atmosphere. The youngest son of the family, for whom this bathroom was designed, wanted the space to look larger, and to have a luxurious bathtub. The architects decided to create a calming, natural and earthy atmosphere with not only materials, but some striking design elements too. For instance, the showing area has a skylight above which fills the space with natural light; the experience is enhanced by the greenery (potted plants) introduced here.

The major requirement of the son, the bathtub, is a free-standing one set against the backdrop of a printed Moroccan tiles screen-like wall. The bespoke vanity with an inbuilt laundry unit uses wood and veneer in its making. The wooden coat-hanger, mirror frame and MS napkin holder are tailor-made pieces too. The entire bathroom is cocooned (floor and walls) in earthy-hued textured vitrified tiles.

Kyrra Studio designed this bathroom in pastel hues and natural stones for the Suede House project in Vadodara. As the large windows here face the main road, an entire green wall was created by the designer for a fresh and calming view. A freestanding Jacuzzi unit was set next to the window, while individual shower and water closet cabins are placed opposite to it. The washbasin unit with a natural stone countertop is softened by the pastel hues of the PU-finished cabinets and painted wall. The flooring here is a brown-hued Italian marble.

This master bathroom is luxurious in a subliminal way, demonstrating an admirable restraint in its articulation. The visual vocabulary plays with a greyscale scheme and clean, crisp lines. The slatted oak ceiling cleverly conceals within it myriad services — giving a pragmatic edge to the stylish narrative. Suitably treated for use in a bathroom space, the Indian stone that lines the walls and floor weaves in the desired rusticity and ethnicity. The austere counters — rendered in black PU-coated surfaces (drawers and countertop), glass (countertop) and MS (frame) — as well as the wardrobes are bespoke. Mirrors facing each other amplify this contemporary setting infinitely.
