This Vadodara home is both practical and aesthetic

JAD Arch Studio design a spacious, open-planned home in a ‘contemporary transitional’ style using soft elements and light colours.

The brief

The main design concept revolved around the client’s requirement of spacious and open planning which needed to be very practical yet aesthetic.

The design intent

The objective was to articulate the requirements and each individual’s personal taste spatially and cohesively. The aesthetic route taken was a fusion of different styles where the synthesis of contemporary style and traditional elements was complemented with the Boho-chic style. “This fusion gives a transitional classy touch to a story of patterns, colours and materials,” says Arpit Jain, principal architect, JAD Arch Studio. “The primary language in this home is its softness and light colours.”

The material and colour palettes

The design uses the warmth of exposed materials, amplified by natural light. “A beautiful combination of basic materials such as veneer and Italian marble makes the house minimalistic yet functional in its own way,” reveals Arpit. “And the crisp furniture lends a neat look due to the veneer and its bold colours.”In the living room, a grey wall texture gives full justice to the natural lighting. This is further accentuated with custom-made wall murals of brass, stone and resin. The elegant poster bed in the master bedroom is highlighted with the use of veneer and Italian marble on the floor, while the daughter’s private space employs pastel shades of peach and green, complemented with grey dyed veneer and wooden flooring.

The challenges

“Every project that we undertake is always more challenging than the last project as we constantly strive to create spaces that are meaningful and unique,” says Arpit. “In this case, reconciling the client’s expectations vis a vis the budget became an area where we had to introspect deeply.”

The highlights

“Several aspects of this project elevate the design of the house to another level,” states the architect. “The entrance itself has an antique wooden door mounted on the ceiling which brings the whole space together. Another interesting element before entering the home is the main door’s brass handle which is custom made. The swing in the living room is bespoke as well. Its bold red back wall becomes the heart of the house connecting all the spaces together,” he says, adding that the moment an idea is liked by both the designer and his client, it becomes a memory and is liked by the designer and the client becomes an everlasting memory. “The process of transforming a house to a home was the favourite aspect of the project,” he concludes.
