The finest eclectic elements dominate this Ankleshwar

P&D Associates brings together a fine blend of modern, classical and traditional design styles to create a personalised residence for a nuclear family.

Located in an upmarket locality at Ankhleshwar, The Floating House designed by P&D Associates has an exterior which draws inspiration from mid-century architecture. While the exteriors witness clean lines, shades of black and grey and the use of MS C-section framing; the interiors have an open layout which encourages communication and bonding between the users. The vibrant ornamental wallpapers paired with vintage lamps and light shades of veneer create spaces with a modern outlook on vintage styles.

Spread across 6,540 sq ft, the entrance to the house is through the first floor, as the design team had to address the client’s requirement for a large parking space. This design move proved to be beneficial, as placing the public areas of the house on the first floor led to better privacy and excellent exterior views. The open layout of the first floor where the living, dining and kitchen flow seamlessly into each other, yet dominating their individual spaces, was a conscious move by the designers. The interior design was developed in accordance to the lifestyle and personalities of the users. It was also done with functionality in mind, making it not just visually appealing but practical and user-friendly too.

The interior was heavily influenced by modern art deco principles, with luxurious materials such as exotic woods, marble, and metals being used on surfaces and in the making of some bespoke furniture and furnishings. Additionally, prominent furniture pieces were sourced from Italy to add luxury and sophistication to the design. The use of the traditional pichwai art form throughout the house adds a sense of awe and grandeur to the space. “Pichwai is known for its intricate and detailed designs. We incorporated this art form into the interior design to add a sense of cultural and historical significance to the space. This makes the project more than just a stylish and luxurious one, but a space with cultural and artistic depth,” explains Devang Devang Patel and Pratik Siddhpura; principal designers, P&D Associates.

The designers decided to welcome everyone into the house by placing a vibrant 3′ x 4′ pichwai painting from a local artist in Nathdwara at the foyer. The living space had the choicest of furniture pieces and handpicked accessories and furnishings… reflecting a modern and sleek design. The kitchen space is kept chic and airy, opening up to the huge dining space, making it a great place for gatherings and socialising. The dining table is placed close to the kitchen and flaunts skinny wooden legs and brass details. The simple white Italian marble top of the table creates a stunningly beautiful contrast with the warm and rich wooden legs and brass details. The pairing of the Indian print fabric chairs add a touch of cultural and aesthetic appeal to the design.

The master bedroom radiates a young energy with its peach colour story and selection of furnishings. The customised curtain made to look like a mural wall adds a personalised touch to the space. The details of cane and black polish in the furniture complement the peach coloured wall, creating a cohesive and stylish design. Overall, the design is well thought out and balanced, with attention paid to both aesthetics and functionality.
