The brief

In a bustling Bengaluru neighbourhood sits The Yellow Door Project, a soulful 800 sq ft home that proves small spaces can hold big stories. The client hoped for a home that felt open, light filled and easy to live in, a space where the compact layout would never feel restrictive. Wild Brick Studio was brought in to reimagine the apartment with this intention… to shape it into a place where every corner feels connected, purposeful and full of character.

The design intent

The Yellow Door Project was imagined as a light filled and airy sanctuary that balances everyday function with a free-spirited sense of design. The bohemian theme guided the overall aesthetic, expressed through layered textures, collected objects and thoughtful artisanal details. The walls were kept minimal so that the movement between rooms felt natural and open. Soft, earthy decor and well-placed mirrors added to this visual ease, while large windows with sheer drapes allowed natural light to animate the home through the day.

Custom designed furniture shaped much of the character here. Each piece was created to feel individual yet still connected to the larger story of the home. Handcrafted wooden tables, upholstered fabric chairs and woven accents brought depth and warmth into the space. Small bursts of colour and carefully introduced greenery completed the palette, creating a relaxed and soulful atmosphere that feels curated but never overdone.

“What’s truly magical about The Yellow Door Project is how it makes you forget its square footage. The space may be small, but the emotion it evokes is anything but. It’s proof that a home doesn’t have to be big to be beautiful… it just has to be yours,” says architect Disha Dutta, principal architect, Wild Brick Studio. “It is not just design. It’s a feeling of walking into a space that hugs you, that holds you, that mirrors your inner calm amidst the chaos of the outside world. Because behind that yellow door is a little world built on intuition, texture, freedom, and love. And once you walk in, you might just find yourself being surrounded by beauty that feels like you—this home is a quiet revolution in yellow” adds Rizwan Malik, principal architect, Wild Brick Studio.

The design and material details

The moment you enter the apartment, the space feels warm and personal, as if it has taken its time to grow into itself. Everything begins at the yellow door. Bright and full of character, it sets the tone for a home that feels honest and inviting. The door does more than mark an entrance. It signals a story where minimalism meets soul and where every corner carries a quiet sense of mood and comfort.

Inside, the design leans towards a laid back boho style that feels lived in rather than curated. The layout was opened up by removing walls, which allowed the living room and kitchen to flow into one another. Natural light fills the home with ease and the spaces feel ready for everyday life rather than display. Here, the walls carry their own personality. Tropical green wallpaper adds freshness and continues onto the TV wall, meeting gentle cane detailing that brings depth and texture. The palette never calls for attention. It simply draws you closer, with surfaces and colours that feel chosen with thought and affection.

The dining area sits in a small alcove with a custom table by Ikaraa Spaces, paired with beige upholstered chairs that offer softness without excess. Handmade rugs and locally sourced lighting from Goa give the space a crafted charm that feels sincere. The kitchen follows the same tone with soft greens, light wood finishes and classic subway tiles. A vitrified countertop keeps the space practical while maintaining the relaxed feel of the home.

The bedrooms are intimate and calming. Textured wallpapers, bespoke wooden beds and rattan side tables bring a touch of nature indoors. Wardrobes finished in smooth PU with handwoven cane panels reflect the project’s larger idea. Clean lines and crafted details coexist with ease, creating rooms that feel both personal and thoughtfully shaped.
