The project
Shingrani’s Residence – Layers of Warmth is a 1,604 sq ft 3BHK apartment designed as a warm, contemporary retreat. Drawing from natural materials and handcrafted details, Staple Ink Studio completed the detail-heavy home in just four months, balancing efficiency with richness.
The site
Located in a premium residential tower in Wadala, Mumbai, the apartment was handed over with builder-standard finishes—basic flooring, counters, and fittings. The clean slate, coupled with abundant daylight and cross-ventilation, provided a foundation for the studio to craft a home of calm intimacy.

The brief
The clients sought a home that felt warm and personal, with ample storage and a sense of comfort—distinct from the impersonality of a hotel.
The design intent
Led by principal designers Rucha Joshi and Nidhi Agarwal of Staple Ink Studio, the project was guided by a philosophy of serenity and subtle layering. Wood panelling, micro-concrete finishes, brass accents, and soft furnishings compose a tactile backdrop, while rugs, artwork, and décor inject colour and personality. “We wanted to create a sanctuary where warmth and individuality are expressed in layers—through materials, details, and memories,” say Joshi and Agarwal.

The civil intervention
The project retained existing walls, focusing instead on selective upgrades. Flooring in the kitchen and balcony was replaced for durability and continuity, kitchen counters were redone with upgraded finishes, and false ceilings with cove lighting were introduced for ambient layering and service concealment.
The spatial flow
The home opens into a foyer that leads into a large, open-plan living and dining space, the social nucleus of the home. The kitchen adjoins the dining area with a separate door, maintaining privacy while allowing service access. One bedroom beside the dining area functions flexibly as a guest or secondary bedroom, while a corridor off the living room leads to the master and second bedrooms, creating a clearly zoned private wing. This sequence ensures openness at the front, with seclusion at the rear.

The material palette
In the living and dining, vertical wooden panelling pairs with a micro-concrete console wall, softened by custom fabric sofas, wooden tables, accent mirrors, and printed rugs. The dining area centres on a wooden table with upholstered chairs and a family-photo console. The kitchen features quartz counters, matte shutters with brass handles, and patterned tiles for subtle animation.
Bedrooms carry distinct moods: the master uses concrete-textured surfaces with terracotta panelling behind a solid wood bed; the second bedroom introduces wooden mouldings, textured wallpaper, and a single art frame; and the guest room incorporates wood-detailed furniture with a handwoven rug. Cove lighting, wall sconces, and pendant fixtures layer illumination, while brass accents, plants, and curated ceramics tie the rooms together.

The challenges
Delivering a fully customised, detail-rich home in just four months required precision and coordination. Wooden panelling and integrated lighting details demanded exacting execution to maintain seamlessness.
The highlights
The living-dining wall with wooden flutes and accent mirror establishes warmth and rhythm. The family-photo console personalises the space, while the terracotta-accented master bedroom creates depth and calm. Wooden mouldings with wallpaper animate the second bedroom, while lighting fixtures across the home act as sculptural statements.

The takeaway
For Staple Ink Studio, Shingrani’s Residence demonstrates how personal warmth can be layered into contemporary apartments. By combining natural finishes, bespoke detail, and curated accents, a home can evolve into an intimate urban sanctuary within just a few months.
