The site
This is a 1,250-sq-ft, 3BHK apartment with a well-planned layout that negated the need for heavy-duty civil changes.
The brief
The clients sought a clean and uncluttered look, with each element thoughtfully chosen to create visual interest.
The design intent
The architects — Udit Padhiar, Rajvi Dave, Anand Banerjee and Dhruv Jasoliya — responded by “incorporating a mix of textures, such as smooth surfaces, natural wood grains, metal accents, and even stone.” The objective of this strategy, they add further, was to add depth and character to the space while maintaining a cohesive overall design.

The material and colour palettes
The use of dark veneer and monochrome artwork in the apartment creates a luxurious aesthetic while maintaining a sense of warmth and comfort. The integration of various materials in neutral tones adds a touch of sophistication and elegance to the overall design.
A home tour
The living room is designed to be both inviting and refined. A careful balance of different materials — such as metal, stone and textured fabrics — and objects contributes to its rich sensory ambience. A graphic artwork and sofa colours play a significant role in tying the space together.
The living room and dining area (with its four-seater, marble-topped table) are seamlessly connected, which furthers cohesiveness and interactivity within the apartment, making the overall living experience more engaging and dynamic for residents and visitors alike. In the nearby kitchen, the use of dark shades (via deep-coloured veneers and a black backsplash) adds an element of effortless elegance.

Dark shades are incorporated in the master bedroom, too, for a classy look. A dark veneer and black flutes are balanced with warm beige-coloured tiles. The inclusion of a cosy couch in a reading nook enhances the relaxation and comfort of the bedroom, providing a perfect spot for the client to unwind and indulge in their passion for reading.
The sage-and-white teenage daughter’s room is shaped by her penchant for art and their desire to move away from traditional pink and purple colour schemes. The addition of a swing in the room, where the inhabitant of the room can relax and study, also adds a chic and playful element to the overall design.

The highlights
The dark veneer paired with neutral wall materials creates a harmonious and luxurious atmosphere without sacrificing the comfort of a home. While the rest of the house features neutral tones, the daughter’s room boldly expresses her teenage spirit through textured elements and patterned fabrics. This cosy yet elegant home serves as a perfect nest for a nuclear family. “What we loved most about this project was the client’s willingness to incorporate dark veneer shades and bold colours,” the architects enthuse. “We will always treasure their confidence in our ability to mix different materials for this project.”
