A multi-generational family aspired towards a subtle, modern, and welcoming home, to be created in an upscale residential development in Ahmedabad. “They believed in a minimalist approach which we agreed on as well,” say architect Palna Shah and interior designer Sachi Shah, founders, P&S Associates. Since the duo had to work around builder-provided features, they decided to treat those elements as the base of the design to build the narrative of this home.“Given that the marble flooring was a little on the darker side, we restricted ourselves to a clean white and neutral palette with a few colours splashed on the soft furnishings.” In addition to a soothing palette, the team used prints and inlays in the floor and played with ambient lighting to establish the requisite character.

The entrance is placed in the centre of the house and the bright and airy terrace is the first thing that you see when you enter. The right wing of the house comprises a kitchen, dining area, family room and two children’s bedrooms. The left wing of the house has a formal living area along with two more bedrooms: the master and the parents’.
“We have tried to minimise the height of the ceilings to enhance the vastness of the space. Moreover, all the walls have a moulding pattern and cornices to give a language of a modern European apartment,” they say. The open kitchen was decorated with a carefully selected tile pattern to give it a cosy personality. Colour plays an important role in giving different rooms their own presence while ensuring that the entire narrative also comes together as a whole. Therefore, all the rooms have a hue of white with a tinge of hues like burgundy, cobalt, olive, and grey.
