Living with Elan designs a boho chic home for a young couple which reflects their personal style and interests.

Project Boho by the Sea is a cosy 1BHK apartment at Cuffe Parade, Mumbai, which was refurbished by design studio, Living with Elan. The young couple who owns the space approached Vidushi Gupta and Mukund Agarwal, principal designers, Living with Elan, with a clear brief — they wanted a boho chic look which would create a warm and subtle environment in their apartment. They also wanted a comfortable and functional home which reflected their personal style and interests.
The original site had dark interiors and was not warm and inviting; however, the windows opened to stunning views of the Arabian Sea. The design intent was to bring in a sense of warmth and life to the space by incorporating natural materials like wood, wicker and plants. Earthy colours and textures were introduced through patterned throw pillows, Moroccan rugs and blankets. The apartment is a perfect blend of vintage and bohemian aesthetic with a touch of personalisation, and has a comfortable and relaxed vibe.
In the living room, the refurbishment involved removing dark veneers from the walls and creating a brick pattern on them using textured paint. Since the living space was not large, the designers eliminated the dining setting and created a drop down breakfast table with stools. It forms the perfect spot for a morning coffee with stunning views of the Arabian Sea. As the studio believes in sustainability, a lot of wood and furniture pieces were reused in the current theme to produce a completely new aura. In the kitchen, the existing countertop was replaced by quartz; but the original carcass of the cabinets were reused with PU-coated wooden shutters. In the bedroom the existing carcass of the wardrobe was reused with PU-coated wicker shutters. Additional furniture for the project were custom designed using wood, wicker and jute at the studio’s in-house manufacturing facility.
