An amalgamation of colours, textures and functional design brings together a 620-square-foot 2BHK apartment located amidst the quiet streets of Powai, Mumbai. Resembling the cosy, self-contained ambience of a caravan, this quaint little space is home for a family of two.

The brief provided by the homeowners was simple – to create a space which is elegant yet artistic in its details,” reveals Anam Taufik whose eponymous studio was tasked with creating this home. Staying true to its name, ‘Project Caravan’ offers a neatly packed layout with one master bedroom and one study room attached to a living and dining area enriched with natural light and an archway that peeks into the tropical-hued kitchen. The living room showcases subtle, neutral walls decorated with fine wooden details. Two asymmetric handpainted wall panels grace the focal wall and create a tropical backdrop for the long wooden sofa.

The dining area finds itself in a dedicated nook along the living area. A wooden swing with brass chains gets its due against a summery handpainted artwork detailed with singing sparrows on tree branches. The dining area is further completed with a wooden table and three wooden chairs upholstered in a quirky printed fabric. The kitchen is a visual delight with its focal point being the dado tiles bustling with tropical foliage art combined with a classic green and wooden combination. The overhead panelled storage is wrapped in a deep green with brass knobs completing the elevation with an open wooden niche acting as a breather.

The master bedroom hosts a bed and a small wardrobe. The elevation of the bed wall is divided into three parts visually; the bottom half is a sage green headboard that splits in equal parts along the length of the elevation. The central half simply adorns a wall light placed off centre and the upper half is beautified with lotus decals. The wardrobe has a textured grey façade with an inbuilt circular teakwood handle and a brass inlay to join the cane texture. It also extends into a small entrance console.

The study room features a small wardrobe, a sofa cum bed and a study table with a bookshelf. The sofa wall has a minimal backdrop of a pink arch holding a metal wall clock and a glass hanging light in the corner. The adjacent wall hosts a dresser with an organic shaped mirror hanging on a brass rod connected to a wardrobe deconstructed by colours and details. The study wall is separated by a jet black moulding divider which marks the bottom area in a soft pink and the upper area in a neutral beige. The bookshelf above the study table is held by a dull gold brass rod and assisted by cane panels that add a factor of interest to the shelves. All in all, this 2BHK home coalesces soothing colours, calming artwork and a layout that feels complete and absolute.
