Designed for a young family, the 1,800-sq-ft House of Zest is a modern 3BHK residence designed for a young family keeping in mind their lifestyle and taste. The intent was to marry vibrancy with a certain feel of calmness. “Different textures and patterns have been layered across the house to evoke emotions and give each space its unique character while holding on to the concept of tying energy and calmness in an unbreakable bond throughout the house,” says Apurva Gupta, principal designer, Studio Alocasia. “The house has made smart utilisation of negative space to let the essential elements of design stand out.”

The space opens up into a connected living and dining area, which are bound together by a common Marmo Antico textured feature wall done by Sirca paints. The wall forms a subtle background to the exquisite wall lights and a gold finish wall clock to highlight the space. The living room seating pairs grey and blush pink fabrics. The six-seater, beige marble-topped dining table is teamed with blush-hued upholstered dining chairs. Placed in an aperture, the mirror-faced dark pine wooden buffet table makes a sculptural addition to the space. The teak of the coffee tables and the TV unit stands out in this room and charges the room with a natural energy.

In the gallery kitchen, daylight streams across the glazed window and energises the white and dark beige colour scheme, which is complemented by matte grey subway tiles of the backsplash.

The master bedroom has a palpable homey sense which elevates the look and feel of the room. The wall is finished with a texture which brings movement to the static walls. The bed flaunts a soft golden hue, which is contrasted with mirrored nightstands that amplify the space’s volume. The resting corner is created by placing the couch with an enchanting medallion pattern and an engaging artwork on the wall.

The guest bedroom is bathed in neutrals, greys, and textures, and blends wood, metal and greenery. The resting space is anchored against a grey PU-finished headboard with a grooved detailing, while the feature wall behind features more grooved detailing, a little less dense than the headboard. Teak wood armchairs create another dreamy resting corner along with the fanning greens.

“The three-year-old daughter’s room enjoys a characterful narrative. It has been made for a child but also keeps in mind her ever-changing personality as she grows to become a talented girl,” says the designer “We didn’t want her to be stuck with a bunch of cartoons for her growing years. We wanted that the room should be able to have different interpretations as the child matures. A special care was taken to make the child’s room gender neutral to break the convention of the pink and blue mentality.”

In this room. tropical Enid wallpaper by Kalakaari Haath has been paired with a complementing green-striped wallpaper from Asian Paints’ Nilaya collection. “This makes the room feel warmer and taller,” discloses Apurva. Another centrepiece of this room is the teak wooden framed hut bed which acts as a low-height sitting for the kid to play or just sleep in and a palm which dominates the corner of the room.

“The House of Zest is designed in such a manner keeping in mind not only the aesthetics but also the functionality of the everyday tasks in a house,” concludes the designer.
