This minimal home possesses an environment conducive to rejoicing

This was a complete renovation of a 3BHK apartment, done entirely from scratch in an old building. The residents of Muchhala House fell into varying age groups — and thus the client’s brief was weighted towards keeping the aesthetic and functionality appealing across age brackets. In addition to this, Mansi Patel and the team at her eponymous interior design practice, also enhanced functionality of the home by optimising circulation and introducing a breakfast table, an entertainment room, and a study area in the attached balcony. “The design intent,” discloses Mansi, “was to make the home interior more functional and minimal, and, at the same time, add a touch of vibrancy in colours, furniture pieces, monochrome/patterned walls and surfaces.”

The material palette features a mix of wood and metallic sheets on the surfaces with golden accents complementing the chosen pastel shades. The floor had to completely change to suit other interiors keeping modernity in mind. “Since it was a renovation project, budget constraints prevailed and the client wanted an uncompromising quality which became a challenge for us,” reminisces Mansi. “The rooms were not as spacious as you find in new constructions so creating optimum usage interior was tough to crack.”

Apart from the vibe of the entire house, The Flamingo Prodigy wall painting in the balcony, resonated particularly well with the clients and their guests alike. “It has been so beautifully done by an old lady and her husband that it’s a love at first,” exclaims the designer, adding that the home office set-up done in the reclaimed balcony of the master bedroom has also been appreciated quite well. “A house needs to have an essence, a style and a message to be called a home — and Muchhala House has all three,” opines Mansi.
