Naturally Inclined

Ably supported by exposed concrete, wood and eco-friendly colours, brick plays a central role in this simplistic, balanced, warm and naturally inclined apartment in Ahmedabad.

THE SITE

The apartment is located on the 5th floor of an apartment complex in Ahmedabad.

Brick lends warmth to the space, creating a connectedness to the earth in an apartment setting.

THE IDEOLOGY

The designing of a home centres around designing a lifestyle. It is not only bringing together soil, climate, material but also revolves around the lifestyle of the people who will habitat that dwelling. For each design and client there is a unique combination of influences – people, places, events, memories and perception.

Ample sunlight gives rise to feelings of calmness and serenity.

THE DESIGN INTENT

The design of this apartment is directed towards simple, stark clean and uncluttered interiors and volume of spaces. The fluidity of spaces with a certain dependence between them, helped the semi-private and private spaces to be interactive, triggering diverse sensations and moods to encourage communication.

THE SPATIAL FLOW

The apartment is located on the 5th floor and the endeavour was to ground the design and connect it to the earth organically. The living room is the heart and soul of the home surrounded by abundant green and huge glazed windows. The client was keen on visual connectivity to the dining which was already connected to a balcony with a coffee table, inviting as much of the surrounding greenery into the internal experience as possible. The kitchen is the heart of a home. Here, a simple and clean approach to design magnifies and harmonises the functionality. The bedrooms are warm and inviting, and come alive with the correct balance of colours and natural light.

The material palette creates a setting that is at once contemporary and age-old, dovetailing familiarity and comfort with a certain edginess.

THE MATERIAL AND COLOUR PALETTES

The colour theme and proportion of the spaces and furniture are in unison. The central material is brick, used in conjunction with exposed concrete, wood and eco-friendly colours leading to simplistic, balanced and warm interiors. All the corridors receive ample sunlight and give rise to a feeling of calmness and serenity. The warm natural light moves around the house bringing about a vitality. Essentially all the rooms receive sunlight and natural breeze almost throughout the day, creating a comfortable internal environment.
