The brief
The vision behind Apartment Ten’02 was to create a harmonious home while capturing the essence of each individual inhabiting the space. “We embraced a modern, minimalistic approach, focusing on making the spaces comforting yet captivating, serene yet scintillating,” say architects Karan Arora and Varchasa Duggal of Studio Vasaka of their design approach.

The spatial flow
At the heart of the home lies the living area, reimagined and replanned by removing certain walls to create an unrestricted layout and incorporating an array of windows. These design choices facilitate abundant natural light, illuminating the entire living area and creating a dance of shadows at sundown. The open floor plan seamlessly integrates the living, dining, and kitchen areas, enhancing visual connectivity throughout the home. The bedrooms enclose the living space, lending necessary warmth and life while maximising functionality.
The colour palette
A neutral palette, accented with colours, adds tranquillity and vigour to the space. White dominates walls and doors, eliminating visual clutter and generating a subtle, soothing aura. Hues of blues and greens contrast and complement the warmth of teak and the tactile elegance of woven cane. Vibrant, plush fabrics are cohesively integrated throughout the furnishings, lending panache and vivaciousness.
The teal cabinets in the kitchen create a distinctive contrast and infuse energy into the overall ambience. “This vibrant addition acts as a lively focal point against the neutral living area, creating a captivating visual journey through contrasting tones and styles,” elucidates the duo. A white textured wall mural in the living room, featuring definite geometries, creates relief patterns while reinforcing the minimalistic approach. Exposed brick contrasts beautifully with a bold teal hue in the niche, adding to the textural symphony in the home.

An extended volume with a window in the elder son’s bedroom acts as a bay window, serving as an extension of the study for a variety of activities such as reading, working, and lounging. The conjunction of pastel blues and pinks with woven cane adds picturesque charm to the master bedroom.
“This juxtaposition of curves with straight lines and rectangular planes can be observed throughout the spaces,” reveal the architects. “In the furniture and even through the ceiling lines, working in tandem to lend a softness to the home, enhancing a diverse sensory experience.”
