House of Knots has collaborated with architect Sona Reddy to design Ananda, a collection of luxurious handmade rugs which captures the timeless beauty of Southern India. Comprising four distinct designs — Malati, Bela, Maya and Dhara — each rug is a masterpiece in their own right, and narrates a unique story encapsulating the cultural significance of the region.
Malati rug portrays the graceful silhouette of an Indian lady amidst a delicate tapestry of Jasmine flowers. These blossoms, symbolising love and purity, evoke the timeless beauty of Indian traditions. Bela on the other hand is a journey into the world of eternal love and beauty. This rug harmoniously weaves artistic finesse with a palette of delicate hues. Crafted from silk and wool, it forms delicate garlands of roses, which speak of deep emotions and romance.
Maya takes heavy inspiration from the ancient kolam designs, and showcases hibiscus flowers with a captivating 3D effect. Each fibre in this rug narrates a tale of strength and culture, while the kolam design forms a mesmerising backdrop. Lastly, Dhara… a symphony of art and auspiciousness, blends Indian art and natural beauty. It gracefully entwines the simplicity of banana leaves and the subtle beauty of Jasmine blooms. The white flowers are exquisitely crafted in bamboo silk, while the red ones shimmer in the luxurious embrace of Tencel.
