The project
The Sanghavi Residence is a 4,000 sq ft apartment in Sopan Baug, Pune. Designed by Atelier NOUA for Rashmi and Ashit Sanghavi, the home is envisioned as a spacious urban residence that incorporates layered materials, defined zones, and hospitality-inspired elements within a domestic setting.

The site
The apartment is located in Sopan Baug, a residential neighbourhood in Pune. The generous floor plate allowed for expansive living areas, multiple bedrooms, and a dedicated entertainment space. The existing layout provided the framework within which the design language was developed.
The brief
The brief called for a home that would reflect refinement and luxury while remaining comfortable for everyday living. The clients sought a residence that could accommodate family life as well as social gatherings, with clearly articulated private and entertainment zones.

The design intent
The design approach centres on material richness and spatial layering. Natural stone, engineered wood, veneer finishes, and textured surfaces are used to create depth across rooms. Lighting and ceiling treatments further define spaces while maintaining continuity throughout the apartment.

The civil intervention
The planning retained the overall structure of the apartment, with design interventions focusing on surface finishes, ceiling detailing, lighting integration, and custom furniture. Spatial articulation was achieved through material transitions and ceiling design rather than major structural alteration.
The spatial flow
The residence opens into a living room defined by natural stone cladding and layered ceilings. From this central zone, circulation leads to the master suite, secondary bedrooms, and a dedicated bar room that connects to a covered terrace. The master bedroom includes his-and-her en-suite bathrooms finished in Indian stone. A secondary bedroom functions as a lounge-style room, while the guest bedroom features cane ceiling detailing and teak flooring. The bar room and terrace extend the entertainment areas, creating a defined social space within the home.

The material palette
Materiality plays a central role in the project. Leather-finished travertine flooring is paired with dark oak engineered wood. Italian leather sofas and full-height drapery are used in the living room. The master suite features dark engineered flooring and veneered wardrobes. Indian stone finishes are used in the en-suite bathrooms. Cane ceiling detailing and teak flooring define the guest bedroom, while veneer and wood elements appear consistently across the residence. Crystal chandeliers and brass accents are introduced selectively.

The highlights
The bar room and covered terrace form a key entertainment zone within the apartment. The master suite stands out for its dual en-suite bathrooms finished in Indian stone. The interplay of stone cladding, layered ceilings, engineered wood flooring, and custom furniture defines the overall interior language.
