The site
Nestled within the prestigious Golf Club of Ahmedabad, this 4,000-sq-ft weekend home is envisioned as a serene sanctuary, offering an escape from the hustle and bustle of city life.
The brief
With the client’s desire for a cosy retreat and a preference for minimal Scandinavian palettes, Squelette Design embarked on a journey to create an oasis of calm and simplicity.

The design intent
“Our design concept centred around the principles of minimalism, with a focus on clean lines, simple forms, and a neutral colour palette,” says architects Saumil Patel and Prashant Trivedi who helm the studio. “By keeping the design understated and uncluttered, we aimed to evoke a sense of tranquillity and relaxation.”

The challenges
This came in the form of “astounding aesthetics” expected on a tight budget. “To achieve this, we utilised cost-effective solutions such as ready-made panels instead of real wood and outsourced the majority of the furniture procurement,” the architects disclose. To enhance the sense of connection between indoor and outdoor spaces, the team strategically removed and added walls, creating seamless transitions between the interior and the surrounding landscapes. This also maximised natural light and ventilation, and accentuated the feeling of openness and serenity.

An artful impact
Art played a pivotal role in elevating the aesthetics of the space. Carefully curated fabrics and art pieces were selected to add visual interest and personality to each room. From striking paintings to sculptural accents, every piece was chosen to complement the minimalist design and enhance the overall ambience. “In this home, we have succeeded in creating a tranquil retreat that embodies the essence of Scandinavian minimalism,” says the architect duo. “Through innovative solutions, strategic spatial planning, and artful accents, we have transformed a simple space into a haven of comfort and style. It’s a place where the beauty of simplicity reigns supreme, offering a peaceful escape for the client to unwind and recharge amidst the beauty of nature,” they conclude.
