This project, evocatively and lovingly called Baa nu Ghar is a 4BHK apartment in Ahmedabad, home to a family matriarch who had lived in the US, but decided to come back to her roots to spend what she probably thinks are her last few years. Shreya Patel and her eponymous interior design firm was entrusted with the task of designing this very special home.
“The brief was obviously to keep the home very minimal and simple with nothing that was too loud or too much,” says Shreya. Understated and simple was the vibe. The 2,300-sq-ft home had to be easy on maintenance with not too many elements but at the same time had to feel like a home.

The entrance foyer, living room and dining area make up one huge space. This was filled with thoughtfully sourced furniture without overdoing the space and keeping it functional and cosy. The colour scheme was kept muted in this area to make the volume feel very airy and light.
In keeping with the overall easy-to-maintain, elegant-on-the-eyes theme, all the bedrooms are kept minimal. Yet each room has its own design elements and thus its own personality. This is mainly done though shifts in the colour scheme — the common denominator being the homely, warm and inviting feel. But while strategic chromatic changes keep things from becoming monotonous, Shreya has taken utmost case to craft a cohesive narrative, creating a simple, down-to-earth home with timeless beauty.
