The site

Located in the posh Vesu VIP Road in Surat, the site is blessed with natural sunlight that pours into the living room and bedrooms. The balcony is another highlight as it offers natural views and light. “We received the site as an open box without a finished floor or materials. Hence, we started with minimal civil changes and material palette was derived as per requirements and selections,” reveals architect Krunal Upadhyay of Charcoal Hues Design Studio.

The brief

The clients were keen that the design of all the open areas and bedrooms followed a different theme — but ones that co-existed harmoniously together. The spaces, they also specified, had to feel luxurious, light and airy.

The design intent

To tie the melange of visual expressions together, the design team opted for white as a unifying element. The colour would also help them realise the objective of a light and airy home. Additionally, most of the surfaces were designed to be maintenance-friendly as well as visually impactful.

The spatial flow and material palette

As you step into the home, the attention is drawn to a stepped-up deck (an extension of living room) sitting overlooking the farms and distant airport view. The living room, with its L-shaped sofa and two single sofa chairs, segues into the dining area. These were designed in a way to optimise circulation and yet make a stylish statement.

The three bedrooms have been unique themes and material palettes. The master bedroom exudes a modern and elegant personality. The predominant colour scheme is white and peach, which is complemented by sleek and contemporary furniture. The focus is on clean lines, uncluttered spaces, and the use of premium materials such as polished metal, glass, and high-quality textiles.

The parents’ bedroom is envisioned as a serene and nature-inspired sanctuary. Shades of white are combined with earthy tones, soft greens, and natural textures. The use of organic materials is prominent. Natural light and greenery play an integral role in creating a refreshing and peaceful environment.

The kids’ bedroom embraces an eclectic modern-minimal theme, with a mix of colours, patterns, and textures. Earthy tones were used as a base to allow vibrant patterns and materials to take centerstage. Materiality embraces stone-finish laminates, WPC panels, colourful patterns in textiles and woven elements.
