The site
The apartment is located in the plush and upcoming neighbourhood of Navi Mumbai and is situated on the 7th floor, providing expansive views of the salt pans and lush greenery.
The brief
“Functionally, the clients, doctors by profession and party hosts by passion, wanted a well-organised floor plan with open living and dining areas to accommodate friends and family,” says Akash Dudhe of SAGI Architects. “They also desired a kitchen where cooking would not feel like a chore but a place to create memories of cooking together.” Aesthetically, the family specified a warm and welcoming home with a minimal and clutter-free design that would balance their personal and professional lives. They wanted splashes of blue (thus the name of the home Teal Address) complemented with natural wooden finishes in shades of browns and greys to bring a sense of calm to their lives.

The design intent
The design philosophy of the Teal Address project was to create a minimal and clutter-free space that would be functional, warm, and welcoming. The architect aimed to strike a delicate balance between contemporary and simple geometric elements with multiple textures and statement furniture pieces. The intent was to transform a house into a home that would be a reflection of the couple and their personalities, while creating a haven that would be a balance of their personal and professional lives. The design brought together concepts of minimalism and functionality with splashes of colour to create a space filled with warmth and character.
The civil intervention
Two 3BHK and 2BHK units were combined together to form a 4BHK flat with a commodious master suite.
The spatial flow
The home features a well-organised floor plan with spaces that flow seamlessly from one to another. The open living and dining area is flanked by the master bedroom on the right, and a kitchen, a den room, and the parents’ and guest bedrooms on the left. The kitchen is planned alongside the dining room, creating a sense of openness that allows unobstructed movement.

The material palette
In the project, the designers have used a consistent material palette throughout the home to create a cohesive design. The living room and bedrooms are decked in veneer panelling in a warm wood tone, while the flooring is finished in a muted, neutral-coloured carpet. The kitchen and dining areas feature custom cabinetry in a light wood finish and marble countertops. The kitchen appliances are all stainless steel, adding a modern touch to the space.
The master bathroom and walk-in closet use the same veneer panelling as the bedroom, with a marble-topped vanity and a large, walk-in shower. The floors were finished in a light-coloured tile, adding a bright and airy feel to the space.
The guest room follows the same muted, neutral colour scheme as the rest of the home, with a light wood veneer on the walls and a matching wood-toned carpet on the floor. The couple’s parents’ bedroom is fitted out in minimal furniture and simple finishes, with light wood veneer panelling and a coordinated carpet.

The highlights
The bar cabinet made out of frosted, brown mirror framed in contrasting wooden-finish fins draws attention, and quickly becomes guests’ favourite spot during parties, while remaining a subtle backdrop otherwise. Additionally, a cleverly carved-out mirror-clad niche adds a visual break to the cabinet while doubling as a buffet counter for guests.
With a shared love for food and cooking, the clients wanted their kitchen to be an important space in the narrative. Planned alongside the dining room, the kitchen layout creates a sense of openness, allowing unobstructed movement while the veneer panelling acts as a divider offering some privacy.
The takeaway
“As they say, it’s difficult to manage interior work while staying in the same place. However, with appropriate planning and a carefully sequenced approach, we were able to combine the two units seamlessly, creating the illusion of a single, unified space, and successfully hand over the project,” says Akash.
