Interior designer Sanjyt Syngh received a straight-forward brief for this farmhouse nestled amongst the sprawling Rajokri farms in New Delhi. The clients were frequent visitors to the capital and wanted a vacation home set in lush greenery. They wanted Sanjyt to create a sense of volume within the house and beyond.
Spread over 48,000 sq ft, the structure masses over 19,000 sq ft and is split into two floors. The architecture includes generous balconies capturing views of the greenery on all four sides. Huddled amongst massive trees it was important to create focal points and experiential moments within the design itself. This was achieved by using large metal and typographic sculptures, axial water features and detailed landscaping. Several bold contemporary linear forms are fastened to the structure to create a sense of volume.
“The interiors are a mix of multiple styles blurring to form a unique identity. As the styles blur, the space starts to develop its own character. There is a sense of softness in elements portrayed through different curves. There is also a sense of ambiguity, yet power is portrayed through colour. Even though there is pattern, texture, repetition and boldness, there is a sense of calmness,” explains Sanjyt.
The ground floor of the vacation home is reserved for formal entertaining. A visitor first enters the waiting lounge at the entrance which overlooks a waterbody and the lush greenery. This area leads to a large open space comprising of the formal entertaining, dining and a show kitchen. Adjoining this public area is the guest bedroom and a master suits. The master suite has a masculine vibe with a strong orange accent. The bed and the artwork in the guest bedroom are on the lines of Brutalism and sees monochrome tones with a dash of ochre. Throughout the vacation home, all the walls in the open areas are treated with interesting art, panels, and sculptures.
The first floor is a more private zone and accommodates two large bedroom suites, one kid’s room, a family lounge, a pantry, and a large storage space. The first suite’s design language is formed with an array of arches in different scales from the headboard to the chandelier to the bedside lamps and the wall art. This suite has a private study inspired by a softer version of Brutalism. Here, a rounded corner triangular study desk is complimented with a triangular rug. A 12-foot bespoke library unit designed and manufactured by Sanjyt Syngh Spaces + Objects adorns one of the walls. It’s a love affair with shades of wine in the second suite. This suite has a gigantic walk-in closet and a beautiful dressing space which is connected to both the bed space and the toilet.
