Ishavasyam, a Vadodara home designed by J Architects embodies the inclination and beliefs of its inhabitants towards the ultimate spiritual journey. Created for a family of five, this 2,358-square-foot home has living-dining areas, a kitchen, four bedrooms and a home theatre. The client’s brief was for a comfortable, low maintenance and opulent home which didn’t utilise loud materials. Thus, serving the client with a minimalist and clean design by using calming colours and earthy materials was the design intent for this project.

The lobby features a cement textured fluted MDF wall panel which forms a backdrop to display brass sculptures depicting the Dashavatara, the ten avatars of Hindu god, Vishnu. The spacious free-flowing living, dining and kitchen area is simple and soothing in its use of colours and materials for its furniture and furnishings. The living room has an L-shaped pastel pink hued sofa, a wooden coffee table and a tailor-made sleek television unit.

The dining area is marked by a six-seater dining table made of a wooden log, with three chairs and a wooden bench for seating, lending a raw yet contemporary touch to this setting. The highlight here is a dynamic feature wall with bottom-lit niches that display showpieces, plants and pots. A small breakfast counter overlooks the kitchen area, visually separating it from the living-dining space. The modern kitchen has a quartz stone counter top with an open MS storage element suspended from the ceiling.

In the grandparent’s room on the ground floor, a soft material palette consisting of veneer and PU, sufficient storage and a beautiful dry stick artwork forms the talking point. Continuing with the minimalistic stride, the master bedroom is simple yet sumptuous with crisp and clean lines featuring wooden flooring and a RCC textured wall. The bed-back here looks like an “illusion” and is created through MDF grooves completed with cement textured paint. The bed is flanked by a dressing unit on one side, and a study desk at the other. The study corner is curated in MS sections cutting through the wooden ledge.

The son’s bedroom is a playful space in pastel theme with a backlit world map on a white brick textured wall. Here, the bed is designed with a dressing unit on one end, and a play corner with a chalkboard on the other. Simple grooves on the wardrobe gives a playful yet mature look to the room keeping it dynamic and evergreen. The study ledge is designed with open storage for books and toys with a pin-board at the back. The pooja room is beautifully done with spiritual shlokas and mandala carving on a backlit wooden plate with a Corian ledge for the idols.
