Jaipur Rugs x Ashiesh Shah: Brahmaand

Jaipur Rugs has collaborated with architect Ashiesh Shah to introduce an exclusive collection of hand-knotted rugs — Brahmaand. Inspired by a series of original watercolour paintings created by Ashiesh, Brahmaand turns humankind’s ceaseless search for cosmic relevance into an inventive line of luxurious hand-knotted rugs. The collection is dyed in hues of deep indigo and is an exploration of visual dimension through gradient, texture and handmade perfection.

The forms of the rugs are organic and draw inspiration from the ancient geometry of India, the cosmos, and the architecture of the Jantar Mantar. Titled Nakshatra, Manthan, Dwaar and Chanda, a fine concoction of various celestial elements, this collection through its depth, proportions and gradation serves as a mirror, bringing the universe to your feet. In hues of indigo, Dwaar exemplifies the essence of the cosmos, while Chanda is a tribute to the ephemeral beauty and fluidity of the moon. It truly encapsulates the phases of the moon in the radiant night sky. Hand-knotted and detailed with intricate zardozi embroidery, Chanda features soft silhouettes and curvy outlines.

Manthan celebrates fine craftsmanship with its subtle gradients and organic forms, and is an ode to the infinite universe. Nakshatra captures the mysteries of a starlit night sky, and is inspired by ancient Indian astronomy, architecture and constellations. On special request, this rug can be customised with sun signs.

The Manchaha rugs (Jaipur Rugs’ design initiative for their weavers) for Brahmaand are inspired by conversations between Ashiesh and the weavers. The ideas, myths, and folklore about the solar system, celestial bodies far beyond and the unperceivable universe are translated into intricate symbols and motifs paired with fine craftsmanship, in the Manchaha series.
